FAQ’s
Where do I check in?
Pull into MICA Guides from the Glenn Highway, follow signs for Alpenglow. Once you have arrived at the Alpenglow Parking lot, push the green call box to be personally checked in.
Check in is from 3 pm to 10pm. Sorry but we will not check in guests that arrive later than 10pm. Check out is at 11 am.
What is your cancellation policy at Alpenglow Luxury Camping?
The full balance of your reservation is due at the time of booking. Should you cancel or change your reservation within 14 days of your arrival or choose an early departure during your stay, you will not receive a refund. Any changes outside of 14 days of your stay will be a 100% refund.
Do you allow children at Alpenglow Luxury Camping?
Children 8 years and older are permitted. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult in the tents. In no cases can we accommodate children under 8 years. If you are a family of four with children under 13, email us to find out if we can put you in the same tent.
Can I cook food for myself at Alpenglow Luxury Camping?
No. We are not a campground and do not have areas for guests to cook food. For health codes we cannot allow guests to cook meals in the kitchen or use the grill. Lunches, snacks and food that does not require being heated up are OK in designated areas. There is a list of recommended restaurants in the area that can be found in our Welcome Book on our website. We are in bear country and food is NOT allowed in tents and must be stored in cars when not being used. We do have a fridge in the common area for guests to use with limited space.
What do we need to bring for our stay at Alpenglow Luxury Camping?
Warm jacket, rain jacket, swimsuit and personal toiletries. We have soap for hand washing and showers. All of your linens and towels are provided. Since we use a solar energy system, please do not plan to use hair dryers.
What temperatures are we to expect at Alpenglow Luxury Camping?
The temperature at Alpenglow Luxury Camping is between 50 and 70°F. The early and late seasons can bring colder temperatures at night, but warm up during the day.
Are your canvas tents heated?
No. The tents are not equipped with heaters, but we do provide warm blankets and a 750 fill down comforter to make sure you stay warm at night.
Are there showers?
Yes! We have enclosed outdoor hot showers next to the hot tub with wash cloths, soap, and towels. We ask guests to wash before entering the tub.
Is there wildlife in the area?
Yes, we are in Alaska and part of the allure is the wilderness setting, but with strict guidelines and respect for the animals we don’t have an issue sharing the space. We are very strict with trash and food on our property to maintain a healthy relationship with our local wildlife. Bear sightings are VERY rare but we do have a lot of moose on the property and they tend to use our trails. We ask guests to keep their distance from moose and eyes open while walking around.
What is the difference between your Glacier Glamping and Alpenglow?
The tent beds are the same on the glacier as I use at our base for the Mountain View and Glacier View Tents. Everyone sleeps very warm and even during our shoulder seasons of operation when things can get chilly out there, folks have been warm in the beds. If you are worried about being too cold I would plan to travel in July when the weather can be a little warmer than our opening and closing dates.
The experience itself is super different though and I tell guests that if they are interested in both then they should do a night of each to get a full experience of our glamping adventures! Our Alpenglow base has a few more amenities and is perfect for relaxation. We have hot showers, flushing toilets, complimentary s’mores around the fire pit and a hot tub.
The Glacier Glamping is a deluxe base camp experience on the Matanuska Glacier with 3 glamping tents, a shared composting toilet, covered space, fire pit, and a camp host at all times. I encourage guests to add on their glacier tour with their overnight because it fits perfect and was designed for this experience. Our most popular trip is our Heli Explorer (our advance trek but via Heli!). So you would start your day with a helicopter drop off to our best areas and start your tour from there. Then after your trip, you walk into our glamping base where drinks and apps wait for you. The host will greet you, show you around and make sure you get settled in before starting on dinner. Dinner is served and a nice fire pit to hang out after is provided. After spending the night in your 16’ glamping tent you are welcomed with french press coffee and a hot breakfast. The flight is shortly after to bring you back to base.
I recommend your itinerary as followed:
Day 1: Drive to Glacier View with plenty of time to stop and take photos along the Glenn Highway (I think it’s one of the best scenic highways you will ever drive). Check in for your afternoon Heli Explorer. Stay the night at Glacier Camp.
Day 2: Fly out of Glacier Camp. You should be back and ready for the next thing around 11. Sign up for another excursion in our area, such as rafting, ziplining, or go for a nice hike. Check in for Alpenglow starts at 3pm. Check in and sign up for a hot tub slot and enjoy the property. Dinner can be at the couple of restaurants near by, I recommend Sheep Mountain Lodge.
Day 3: Check out and head to your next destination.
Everything you see online is to the minute accurate so if you see a date that works for this you can book instantly online.
How far away is everything on the property?
Everything is a short walk. Our Glacier View Tents do require a short uphill trail to get to from the parking lot. The Mountain View Tents are a short walk on a trail from the parking lot. Some of our tents are on elevated platforms and require walking up and down a few steps. Please email us if you would like to be put into a tent with limited steps.
